"Waves of a serene life pass over us from time to time, like flakes of sunlight over the fields in cloudy weather."  ~Thoreau

As a contemporary landscape painter working in oil, watercolor, and pastels, I find that I am truly captivated by the interplay of light and atmosphere.  Creating art enhances my daily observation of colors and light. The natural beauty of coastal Maine is always an inspiration.

Watercolor gives me the freedom to paint in a loose impressionistic style. Watercolor's range, from light, transparent washes to exciting dark shadows is ideal for capturing the ever-changing moods of coastal villages, working harbors, and the rocky coastline.  My strong emotional response to the beauty in nature is also expressed in the saturated color and textured brush strokes of oil paint. The subject, the mood of the day, and the moment in time determines the medium of each piece.

When I am immersed in the painting, time stops and I belong to a place of quiet and solitude. Artists usually describe the scene, but the viewer completes it by supplying what is personally meaningful. My wish is that this passion for beauty in the world will allow the viewer to make the emotional connection and share the moment.
