Bonnie LaBelle - Biography

HISTORY AND EDUCATION

BONNIE LABELLE

Living on the South Shore of Massachusetts as a young adult, Bonnie had the opportunity to study oil painting with Edward Harrigan of Rockland, Massachusetts, a protege of Paul Strisik and Emile Gruppe, both distinguished members of the Cape Ann colony.  She was able to take in the region's range of subject matter - atmospheric landscape, harbors, sailing vessels - and had the opportunity to view original works in the local galleries.  She also participated in workshops taught by one of the Top 10 marine artists in the Unites States at that time, Marshall Joyce.

After a move to Downeast Maine, she was able to immerse herself in the natural beauty of her surroundings.  And she discovered Coastal Maine Art Workshops in Rockland.  She was able to extend her education by attending workshops taught by internationally known artists - Alvaro Castagnet, Andy Evanson, David P. Curtis, Lori Putnam and Larry Moore, as well as Australian artists John Wilson and Colley Whisson; to name a few.  As Robert Henri said - a student's education is in his own hands.  All education must be self-education.

She has now made the move to a lovely light-filled studio on the Schoodic Peninsula where she learns from the play of light and shadow along shorelines alive with surf and fishing villages right outside her door.

Her work has been exhibited in galleries and art association shows in Cape Cod and Braintree, Massachusetts as well as the Birdsnest Gallery in Bar Harbor, Maine.  More recently her work has been shown at the Redfield Gallery in Northeast Harbor, the Cygnet Gallery in Rockland, and in many private collections.

At the present time you are invited to view her work at the Blue Hill Bay Gallery in Blue Hill, Maine and Small Wonder Gallery in Camden Maine.
